NEW PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN MERIT AND SENECA GIVES TOURISM AND TRAVEL STUDENTS HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE AT ON-CAMPUS TRAVEL AGENCY

Toronto, January 6, 2010 - Students in Seneca’s Tourism and Travel program will now get work experience without even having to leave campus.
Beginning this month, a new partnership between Merit Travel Group Inc. and Seneca will bring a full service travel agency to the Seneca Markham Campus. From this on-campus location, the Merit travel agency will act as a valuable learning resource for students who will:
• participate in the daily operations of a corporate and leisure full-service travel company
• research and book air, hotel, and tour packages
• benefit from current curriculum in a new Corporate Travel Management course, internship and networking opportunities starting January 2010
“Our partnership with Merit will give students real world experience throughout their education with vital input from an industry leader. This is an advantage we are proud to give to our Tourism and Travel graduates,” says David Agnew, Seneca College President.
The partnership will also see Merit representatives join the Tourism program Advisory Committee and work with Seneca together to expand opportunities and resources for students in the College’s School of Tourism.
"The travel industry is strong in Canada, and this is not just with online agencies. Travel professionals continue to serve the majority of travelers, will always be at the core of our industry, and will continue to be sought after for their consultancy, insight, problem solving, and years of relevant experience,” said Michael Merrithew, Chairman & CEO, Merit Travel Group Inc. “At Merit our employees are truly experts, and we are looking forward to becoming part of the education process. Seneca wants to ensure that graduates from the Travel & Tourism program enter the industry with the foundation of skills necessary to become the service oriented experts that Canadians need to get the travel experience of a lifetime."

African schools to benefit from Green Solutions North America’s School in a Box™
program
Children at ten
schools in Kenya will soon find their classrooms much more enjoyable places to
learn, thanks in part to Green Solutions North America Incorporated’s School in
a Box™ program. The schools, located in the Home Bay and Maseno areas of Lake
Victoria, Kenya, will receive a shipment of gently used school supplies,
including nearly 50 computers.
Toronto companies, including Allstate Canada Inc.,
RBC Royal Bank of Canada, Merit Travel Group, Cancer Care Ontario and the
Canadian Standards Association are making the donation through a partnership
with Green Solutions North America, an international organization that helps
companies dispose of surplus office materials in a manner that fulfills their
mandate toward corporate social responsibility. Their School in a Box™ program
has helped thousands of school children around the world receive the supplies
they need to improve the quality of their education.
“Every year, millions of tonnes of corporate waste
goes into landfills, despite the fact that most of it is perfectly usable,” said
Jim Reid, CEO of Green Solutions North America. “It’s not only quite wasteful
but hazardous to the environment, as well. Companies, such as the ones who have
made this School in a Box™ possible, realize this and, through our Corporate
Waste to Educational Wonder™ process, avoid contributing to this growing problem
while making a significant difference to both kids across the world and people
in their own community.”
The shipment is being organized in collaboration
with the Rotary Club of Victoria and the two containers will also include
medical supplies.
